Speech-impaired man takes responsibility for Gairigaun killing

KATHMANDU: A speech-impaired individual has admitted responsibility for the murder of four people in Gairigaun, Kathmandu, on Friday midnight, according to police.

The 22-year-old man, who was apprehended by police on Sunday based on CCTV footage, confessed to the crime during questioning. In a written statement during the interrogation, the man wrote, ‘I killed four people’ on a piece of paper, a source at the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, said. He also wrote that he murdered Nabin Rai due to a personal feud and that he killed the other three individuals because they had witnessed the crime. Police also recovered a knife used in the murders from the man.

The victims, which included three members of the same family, were discovered brutally murdered at Divya Saw Mill in Gairigaun at midnight on Friday. The deceased individuals have been identified as Kumar Bhujel, a security guard at the sawmill, his wife Ambika, his mother Sumitra, and Nabin Rai (19) from Morang.

Police investigations have revealed that the victims sustained severe cuts on their bodies inflicted by a sharp weapon.

Dipendra Rai, who initially reported the incident to the police and is related to one of the deceased individuals, Nabin Rai, was previously detained for questioning. However, police have since ruled out Dipendra’s involvement in the crime.
