Three arrested for smuggling 1 kg gold

KATHMANDU: Three individuals have been apprehended on charges of smuggling one kilogram of gold into the country.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Babu Lal Dong, Jagat Lama, and Mingma Dorje Syangtan. All three are from Kavre district.

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, the police received a tip-off regarding gold smuggling on Tuesday morning. Upon arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport premises, the police encountered Dong, who was acting suspiciously. When police interrogated him, Dong confessed that he had arrived in Kathmandu from Dubai on a Himalaya Airlines flight with gold concealed his rectum. The police retrieved 960 grams of gold from Dong’s rectum at the Metropolitan Police Circle in Gaushala.

Based on Dong’s statement, the police arrested the other two individuals from Dhalko, Kathmandu. Additionally, the police have seized a car and a motorbike associated with the suspects.

“The three suspects have been handed over to the Department of Customs for further investigation,” DSP Anil Adhikari of the District Police Range Kathmandu, said.
