Nepal defeats Qatar by nine wickets

KATHMANDU: Nepal secured a convincing nine-wicket victory over Qatar with 57 balls to spare in their fourth match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Malaysia on Monday.

Batting first, Qatar managed to score 74 runs losing seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Nepal chased down the target with ease in just 63 balls, thanks to opener Kajal Shrestha’s impressive knock of 32 runs off 28 balls.

Saachi Dhadwal was the top scorer for Qatar, contributing 21 runs off 44 balls. Aleena Khan and Aysha added 15 and 14 runs, respectively, while Aysha chipped in with 10 runs. The rest of the Qatari batters struggled to reach double-digit scores.

Indu Barma was the standout performer for Nepal with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Puja Mahato and Kabita Joshi each took one wicket. Additionally, two Qatari batters were run out.

Nepal made a strong start in the chase, adding 47 runs for the first wicket. Kajal Shrestha scored 32 runs before she was bowled by Sabeeja Panayan in the 7th over. The second-wicket pair of Sita Rana Magar and Indu Barma batted sensibly and overcame the target with 57 balls to spare.

Sabeeja Panayan managed to take one wicket for Qatar.

Nepal will now face UAE in their final group match on Wednesday. Both teams have remained undefeated in the group stage thus far.
