KATHMANDU: Paras Khadka, the former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, has been elected as the President of the Bagmati Provincial Committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
Khadka defeated Umesh Piya, a representative from the Chitwan district committee of CAN, by nine votes in the election held on Friday. He received 23 votes.
Khadka’s team claimed victory in all positions in the provincial committee. Prem Bahadur Chhetri has been elected as Vice President, Prasanna Shakya as Secretary, and Sanjaya Basnet as Treasurer. Likewise, Ajay Bir Pandey, Anil Adhikari, Sanjog Pokharel, Suraj Baharjan, Nira Rajobadhya (unanimously), Dhiraj Shrestha, Shekhar Shrestha, Basanta Raj Satyal, and Anup Man Shrestha have been elected as members in the executive committee.
Among the six district committees under the Bagmati Provincial Committee of CAAN, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Makwanpur contested the election by forming a team under Khadka’s leadership. However, Chitwan and Nuwakot district committees contested the election against Khadka’s team.
Khadka was elected provincial committee chairman shortly after his election as a member of the Kathmandu District Committee of CAN. He has made no secret of his desire to lead CAN as its president someday.
