TU, student unions agree to roll back fee hike

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University (TU) and student unions have agreed to reverse the decision to increase the tuition fees of engineering colleges.

Officials of TU and representatives of different student unions signed an agreement to this extent on Wednesday.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Dharmakanta Baskota, Rector Prof Dr. Shiva Lal Bhusal, Registrar Prof Dr. Peshal Dahal, and Deans Prof Bhargab Dhital and Prof Dr. Dilli Raj Sharma represented TU in the discussion, while the students were represented by chairpersons of Nepal Students Union, ANNFSU, and ANNFSU (Revolutionary), among others.

Following the deliberations, a five-point agreement was reached and signed. According to the agreement, TU will instruct engineering colleges to revert to the previous fee structure. Additionally, both parties have agreed to establish a study committee to review the fee structure and make adjustments based on its findings.

After signing the agreement, the students have withdrawn their hunger strike and other forms of protest.
