KATHMANDU: CPN (United Socialist) Chairman, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to disclose to the Nepali people if there are any unjust aspects of the American assistance program, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Addressing a gathering organized by the Socialist Front in Butwal on Tuesday, Nepal said undue conditions attached to financial assistance from foreign governments are unacceptable. “We cannot endorse inappropriate terms and conditions tied to any form of financial aid. Any association between the MCC and the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) is not agreeable to us,” Nepal said. “This strategy appears to be an attempt to encircle China and label other nations as adversaries.”
The former Prime Minister also said that Nepal had ratified the MCC agreement with an ‘interpretative declaration’, clearly stating that Nepal will avoid engagement in any military alliances.
“The ratification of the MCC agreement was accompanied by an interpretative declaration. If the US government has not acknowledged our declaration, I urge the Prime Minister to communicate this to the citizens, the ruling coalition, and the front,” he added.
