Air India landing gear glitch forces TIA to close runway for 50 minutes

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) experienced a temporary runway closure at around 4 pm on Tuesday after an Air India aircraft, bound for Delhi, encountered issues with its landing gear as it was preparing to take off.

Subash Jha, the spokesperson for TIA, said one of the landing gears of the Airbus A320-214 aircraft got jabbed after it entered the runway from the taxiway. “Since the aircraft had to be pulled back onto the parking bay, we had to close the runway for about 50 minutes. As a result, other aircraft in line for landing were instructed to maintain a holding pattern,” Jha added.

After the aircraft was safely towed to the parking bay, the runway was reopened for normal operations.

According to Jha, technicians from Air India are conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to assess its airworthiness. “If the aircraft is deemed fit for flight, it will proceed with its scheduled journey to Delhi later today. If the aircraft is not cleared for flight, the concerned airline will make alternative arrangements for the passengers,” he added.
