ITAHARI: Itahari Sub-metropolitan City has cracked down on business firms engaged in network marketing.
The sub-metropolis padlocked the offices of three such firms – Global Oriens, Healthy Living Nepal, and Royal Associate – on Thursday.
Itahari Mayor Hem Karna Poudel said the sub-metropolis swung into action as these firms were found engaging in deceptive practices that exploited the general public through network marketing schemes. “We have sealed the offices and asked the promoters of these firms to report to the sub-metropolis within three days,” Poudel stated.
The sub-metropolis initiated action against these unethical after receiving complaints from individuals who fell victim to their deceitful practices. “The promoters of these firms have been enticing people with promises of easy money, contrasting the effort required in traditional business or regular employment,” he added.
Although existing laws and regulations prohibit network marketing and pyramid schemes, a number of unscrupulous individuals continue to operate within these sectors.
Deputy Mayor Sunita Chaudhary, who is also the coordinator of the monitoring committee formed by the sub-metropolis, said these firms were found to be engaged in activities beyond the scope of their permitted operations.
