DHANGADHI: Seven hilly districts of Sudurpashchim have been cut off as a landslide triggered by incessant rain since Monday has obstructed the Bhimdatta Highway.

According to passengers stranded on the highway, landslide debris has blocked a road section at Selfidanda near Khanidanda. Some stretches of the road have caved in due to the landslide.

Bhimdatta Highway is the only dependable road connecting Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Bajura, Doti and Achham districts of Sudurpashchim Province to rest of the country.

The Sudurpashchim Province Traffic Police Office, Attariya, also said that vehicular traffic on the Bhimdutta Highway has been affected due to the landslide.

Hundreds of vehicles heading to and from the hilly districts of the province from Kailali and Kanchanpur districts are stuck at Khanidanda.

According to the police, efforts are underway to make the highway operational again.
