DHANGADHI: The Nagarik Unmukti Party has decided to join the Sudurpashchim Province after reaching an understanding with the central-level leaders of the ruling coalition on Tuesday.
The understanding was reached in a meeting attended by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister, and NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Sudurpashchim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah, and leaders of Nagarik Unmukti.
Also present in the meeting were Nagarik Unmukti Founder Resham Chaudhary, Chairman Ranjita Shrestha, and Maoist Center’s parliamentary party leader Khagarj Bhatta, among others.
About seven months ago, Shah became Chief Minister with the support of Nagarik Unmukti, and at that time, he offered the party ministries of its choice. However, during the recent cabinet restructuring on May 20, Shah offered only one ministry to the party.
In response to the decision, the Nagarik Unmukti chose not to join the government.
Now, Shah has offered one minister, one minister of state, chiefs of two parliamentary committees, and the post of deputy speaker to the party. As per the understanding, Nagarik Unmukti will get the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives.
