KATHMANDU: Sita Dahal, the wife of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was cremated with state honor on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Purna Bahadur Khadka placed the national flag on Sita’s body.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal accompanied by his daughters, Renu and Ganga, lit the funeral pyre at the Pashupatinath Temple cremation grounds on Wednesday.
Former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, and Madhav Kumar Nepal, ministers, high-ranking government officials, leaders of different political parties, and heads of different diplomatic missions reached the cremation grounds to offer their final tributes to Sita.
Earlier, the body was kept at the Koteshwar-based headquarters of CPN (Maoist Center) to allow people to pay their respects.
Sita passed away at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu at 8:33 am. According to the hospital, she was a known case of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Parkinsonism, Diabetes Mellitus-II, and Hypertension, and was receiving domiciliary oxygen intermittently.
