KATHMANDU: The government has spent 76.64% of the budget allocated for the current fiscal year as of Monday.
According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), Monday was the final day to make payments for the budgetary programs of the current fiscal year. Under the Fiscal Procedures & Financial Accountability Act, provincial and district treasury offices are required to complete all payments and close their accounts one week before the fiscal year concludes.
The computerized systems used for releasing payments to provincial and local governments, namely the Computerized Government Accounting Systems, Treasury Single Account, and Sub-National Treasury Regulatory Application, have gone offline for a week starting Monday.
Previously, the FCGO had issued a circular to the seven Provincial Treasury Controller Offices and 77 District Treasury Controller Offices, urging them to complete all payments for the fiscal year 2022/23 by Monday.
Out of the total allocation of Rs 1793.83 billion for the current fiscal year, the government has managed to spend Rs 1,374.75 billion as of Sunday, accounting for 76.64% of the total allocation. Recurrent expenditure amounted to Rs 1,001.8 billion, or 84.67%, while capital expenditure remained at a disappointing 55.22%. As of Monday, the government has spent Rs 210.4 billion from the capital budget.
Furthermore, the government has utilized 70.75% of the budget earmarked for financial management, spending Rs 162.88 billion out of the allocated Rs 230.1 billion.
