KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has received permission to fly to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport in Australia.

The national flag carrier has received permission to fly to Sydney twice a week – on Thursdays and Saturdays.

According to Ganesh Kumar Ghimire, the deputy spokesperson for NAC, NAC will take a technical transit in Singapore for the Kathmandu-Sydney flight. “We are planning to launch flights from the last week of June,” said Ghimire.

NAC plans to use its Airbus A330-200 aircraft for the flight. It will take the aircraft approximately five hours to reach Singapore, while the flight duration between Singapore and Sydney is around seven and a half hours.

Ghimire said NAC is in the process of appointing a general sales agent, caterer and fuel supplier in Sydney, and a fuel supplier in Singapore.

Sydney is one of the destinations that NAC had included in its business plan to procure Airbus A330-200 aircraft. It is already flying to Tokyo, while the flight to Seoul is said to be on the cards.

NAC has a fleet of four aircraft – two Airbus 320s and two Airbus A330s – for international flights.
