KATHMANDU: Students vandalized the office of a rural municipality in Bara as a protest against the transfer of school principals.
The students expressed their anger by vandalizing the office building of Subarna Rural Municipality after the rural municipality transferred Ram Ekwal Prasad from Hardiya High School, Chandeshwar Prasad Yadav from Devapur Wahura, Dharmendra Prasad Yadav from Nera High School, and Nathuni Prasad Yadav from Kawahi Jagad High School.
During the protest, the students targeted the offices of rural municipality Chairperson Rajesh Prasad Yadav and Vice Chairperson Punam Kumari. The police fired 10 tear gas shells to disperse the crowd after the students tried to torch the documents of the rural municipality.
Rural Municipality Chairperson Yadav accused the teachers of politicizing the incident. “The rural municipality has the authority to transfer its employees, and we have followed the necessary procedures for the transfers,” he stated. According to Yadav, it was the teachers themselves who incited the students to engage in acts of vandalism. “I have identified those responsible for this incident and will report them to the police.”
Yadav further mentioned that the vandalism resulted in a loss of Rs 30 million to the municipality.
