KATHMANDU: Nagarik Unmukti Party has unveiled a series of protest programs expressing dissatisfaction over the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold verdicts of lower courts to hand life imprisonment to its patron Resham Lal Chaudhary.

Reiterating that the Tiakpur incident is a political incident, the party has also demanded that the government release the report of the inquiry commission led by former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal.

Issuing a statement, the party said that it would organize a nationwide strike for five days starting Saturday.

The Supreme Court Tuesday upheld the decisions of the Dipayal High Court and Kailali District Court to sentence Resham Lal Chaudhary, the patron of Nagarik Unmukti Party, to life imprisonment for his involvement in the Tikapur incident.

Chaudhary has Chaudhary been convicted of masterminding the murder of eight police personnel, including Senior Superintendent Laxmane Neupane, in Tikapur of Kailali in August 2015.
