Nepse daily turnover falls to Rs 608 million

KATHMANDU: The intraday turnover in the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), which has been declining considerably in recent days, dropped to Rs 608.13 million on Sunday – the first trading day of the week. The daily turnover in the country’s only bourse reached an all-time high of Rs 21.6 billion on August 15, 2021.

Although the Nepse index has been fluctuating in recent days, the daily turnover has been falling considerably. Nepse recorded a turnover of Rs 732.6 million on Thursday – the last trading day of the previous week.

Meanwhile, the Nepse index fell by 19.12 points on Sunday. The benchmark index had gained 12.73 points on Thursday, breaking a five-day losing streak.

All the trading groups ended the day in red, with the biggest loss coming from the Hydropower index, which fell by 2.04%. Next on the list were the Hotels and Tourism, and Microfinance sub-indices, which were down by 1.79% and 1.24%, respectively.

On Sunday, share prices of 187 companies fell, while 23 companies saw modest gains in their share prices. Shivam Cement topped the list of companies in terms of turnover amount with shares worth Rs 32.23 million traded. Next on the list were Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower Ltd and Nabil Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 18.97 million and Rs 16.82 million, respectively.

The total market capitalization was recorded at Rs 2.69 trillion on the day.
