Run fest in Kirtipur as 741 runs scored in UAE vs Singapore tie

KATHMANDU: A handful of spectators at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur were in for a treat on Sunday as 741 runs were scored in the match between UAE and Singapore in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup.

Batting first after winning the toss, UAE scored a mammoth 471 runs in the allotted 50 overs. Singapore could score only 270 runs losing nine wickets.

Captain Muhammad Waseem and wicketkeeper Vriitya Aravind scored centuries for the UAE. While Waseem scored 160 runs from 82 balls, Anand scored 174 runs from 133 balls. The duo clubbed 23 sixes and 26 fours. Aayan Afzal Khan scored 74 runs from 50 balls.

Vinoth Baskaran was the most economic bowler of Singapore as he gave only 61 runs in his 10-over spell taking two wickets. Adwitya Bhargava took four wickets giving 85 runs in eight overs.

Although two Singapore batsmen scored half-centuries, the total was too much for the chasing side. Manpreet Singh scored 66 runs from 64 balls, while Thilipan Omaldurai hit a 56-ball 52.

Aayan Afzal Khan, Karthik Meiyappan and Sanchit Sharma each took two wickets, while Juanid Siddique, Rohan Mustafa and Zahoor Khan chipped in with a wicket each.
