Nepse down by 14.44 points

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went down by 14.44 points to close at 1,938.62 points on Wednesday. This marks the third instance of Nepse incurring losses in four trading sessions this week.

The market opened for trading with the benchmark Nepse index at 1,953.96 points. After logging nominal gains initially, Nepse went into a freefall reaching an intra-day low of 1,926.51 points. It, however, made some recovery toward the close to ultimately close 0.74% lower.

Shares of NIC Asia were high in demand on the day as Rs 103.52 million worth of shares of the Class ‘A’ bank were traded on Wednesday. Next on the list were Sanima Mai Hydropower and Nabil Bank Ltd with total turnovers of Rs 71.60 million and Rs 42.91 million, respectively. Sanima Mai Hydropower, however, was at the top in terms of the number of shares traded.

Except for Trading, which was up by 0.51%, all trading groups ended the day in negative territory. The maximum loss came from the Microfinance sub-index which fell by 1.86%. Next on the list were Finance and Banking sub-indices which were down by 0.85% and 0.78%, respectively.

A total of 3.71 million units of shares of 253 companies worth Rs 1.20 billion changed hands on the day. Total market capitalization reached Rs 2.80 trillion.
