Major General Prem Shahi dismissed from military service

KATHMANDU: Major General Prem Shahi of the Nepal Army has been dismissed from his service on corruption charges. The decision was made by a military court chaired by Major General Taradhwoj Khadka on Thursday.

Brigadier General Krishna Bhandari, the army spokesperson, confirmed the dismissal and stated that “the court decided to terminate Major General Shahi from service, making him eligible for other government posts in the future.”

The court also sentenced Colonel Mahendra Jung Shah and Lieutenant Colonel Kuldip Timilsina under the Army Act for violating the army discipline.

The army had formed a seven-member military court under Major General Khadka’s leadership following allegations that a team, including Major General Shahi, was planning to work against Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma. The court consisted of two major generals, four brigadier generals, and one colonel.

“This is a preliminary verdict. The full text of the verdict will have details of money the embezzled,” said spokesperson Bhanari.
