KATHMANDU: Nepal has entered the final of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship.
In its last round robin match played in Dhaka on Tuesday, Nepal defeated defending champion India 3-1.
Needing nothing less than a win to stay in the competition, Nepal faced a setback when it conceded in the 21st minute. Apurna Narzary tapped in from the box utilizing a beautiful cross by Sumati Kumari.
Nepal pressed for the equalizer and was gifted by Indian goalie Anshika in the 48th minute. Under pressure from Amisha Karki, her shot rebounded in the path of Nepali striker Anjali Chand who slotted in an easy goal.
Nepal scored from the spot in the 68th minute to take the scoreline to 2-1. The referred awarded penalty to Nepal after Anjali Chand was brought down inside the box.
As India went into the offensive, Nepal scored in the 89th minute to kill any hope of the Indian comeback. Amisha Karki scored from a superb pass by Captain Priti Rai.
Nepal has six points after three matches. India and Bangladesh have four points each. Bangladesh needs at least a draw against Bhutan to enter the final.
