Japan hands over school building

KATHMANDU: Emergency School Reconstruction Project, a Government of Japan-assisted project, has handed over a school building in Nuwakot district to the local community.

The building of Shahid Jagat Prakash Jung Shah Sanskrit Secondary School in Bidur Municipality sustained severe damages in the 2015 earthquakes. The ESRP reconstructed the building and handed it over to the local community.

Sending his congratulatory message for the handover ceremony, Japanese ambassador for Nepal Kikuta Yutaka said: “Japan launched ESRP aiming to reconstruct 274 schools in six severely hit districts. As of today, 273 schools, including this one, have been completed.”

“Moreover, ESRP aims to rebuild and refurbish schools under the concept of ‘Build Back Better’ to make schools more earthquake resilient.”

The embassy said in the statement that it was hopeful that the ESRP schools will further strengthen the relationship between Japan and Nepal, and the friendship between the peoples of the two countries for future generations.
