KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went up by 20.68 points on the first trading day of the week to close at 2,164.61 points on Sunday.
The market opened for trading with the benchmark Nepse index at 2,143.94 points. Though the index hit an intra-day low of 2,127.21 within a quarter of an hour of trading, it bounced back and remained on the green trajectory through the remainder of the session to end 0.96% higher.
Except Banking, Manufacturing & Processing and Microfinance groups, all other sub-indices posted gains. The maximum gain came from the Life Insurance sub-index which was up by 4.43%, followed by Hotels & Tourism and Mutual Fund which were up by 3.98 and 3.52 points, respectively.
Himalayan Distillery Ltd logged the biggest turnover of the day as shares worth Rs 212.95 million of the liquor maker changed hands. Similarly, Himala Dolakha Hydropower Company Ltd was at the top in terms of a number of shares traded. A total of 527,185 units of shares of the hydropower company were traded in the bourse on Sunday.
Shares worth Rs 5.46 billion of 259 scrips were traded on the day through 75,465 transactions. Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.12 trillion.
