Don’t meet political leaders for promotion, police personnel told Inspector General Dhiraj Pratap Singh welcomes Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane at the Nepal Police Headquaters in Naxal, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane on Friday said needful action will be taken against police personnel who seek transfers or promotions by approaching political leaders.

Lamichhane made the comment during a visit to the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal on Friday.

Stating that there are pre-defined standards for promotion, Lamichhane said standards cannot be bypassed in any way.

Earlier on Thursday, Minister Lamichhane had instructed police personnel not to meet with political leaders or members of the diplomatic community without obtaining prior approval.

“I am aware of the existing practice of seeking promotions through political connections. You should all be clear that there are established standards for promotion,” Lamichhane told police personnel.

He also said that the government will review pay and perks as well as the ration of police personnel. “We will conduct a needful study to this extent very soon,” he added.
