Independent lawmaker Prabhu Sah forms new political party

KATHMANDU: Independent lawmaker Prabhu Sah has formed a new political party.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, Sah declared the formation of Aam Janata Party.

Sah was elected to the House of Representatives from Rautahat-3 in the November 20 polls. Rejecting the ticket offered by his party CPN-UML, Sah resigned from UML and contested the election as an independent candidate. The coalition of the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and some fringe parties had supported him in the election.

Aam Janata Party has formed a 51-member ad-hoc committee, and also named chairpersons and in-charges for all seven provinces. Likewise, it has also formed five sister organizations.

Sah had earlier held discussions with Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, among others, for joining their parties. As the talks weren’t fruitful, he moved away with the plan of forming a new political party.

Though media reports had claimed another independent candidate Amresh Kumar Singh, who defeated his former party Nepali Congress’ candidate in the November 20 election, is also joining hands with Sah to open a new party, Singh seemingly chose against joining the new party.
