Govt brings ordinance to withdraw cases against Resham Chudhary, others

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to bring an ordinance to withdraw cases against leaders and cadres of different political parties.

The Ordinance to Amend National Civil Code, 2017, is aimed at withdrawing cases of leaders and cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplab’ led Nepal Communist Party, Resham Chaudhary led Nagarik Unmukti Party and CK Raut led Janamat Party, among others.

“The ordinance is being brought to withdraw cases against cadres of different political parties and groups with which the government is holding talks,” a minister told Himal Press.

The decision is expected to pave the legal way for the release of Resham Chaudhary whose party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, won three seats in the November 20 election. The party has four lawmakers including independent candidate Lalbir Chaudhary. Lalbir is Resham Chaudhary’s father.

By bringing the ordinance and securing the release of Resham Chaudhary, the coalition is looking to bring Nagarik Unmukti Party on board to form the next government with a comfortable majority.

It is interesting to note that, Nagarik Unmukti party chairperson Ranjita Shrestha a few days ago said her party would support in government formation only if Resham Chaudhary is released.

Shrestha is the spouse of Resham Chaudhary.
