Ram Bahadur Thapa named UML’s election commander

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has decided to appoint Vice Chairperson Ram Bahadur Thapa as its election commander.

A meeting of the party’s Secretariat held on Tuesday decided to appoint Thapa as the Coordinator of its Election Mobilization Committee, according to Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta.

Bishnu Rimal has been named Secretary of the committee, while Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Rajan Bhattarai, Hikmat Karki, Ramesh Badal, Min Bahadur Shahi, and Bhishma Adhikari are members.

The House of Representatives elections are scheduled for March 5. Before that, the Election Commission is holding a voting to fill 18 vacant positions of the National Assembly on January 25. Province assembly members, and mayors/chairpersons, and deputy mayors/deputy chairpersons of local governments vote in the National Assembly elections.

The term of 19 National Assembly members is expiring on March 4. The President will nominate one remaining member on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
