KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day by organizing various programs on the embassy premises on Friday.

The ceremony began with the hoisting of the flag by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava in the morning. A message from Indian President Draupadi Murmu, delivered on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, was read out at the event.

Similarly, Ambassador Srivastava also honored the widows and closest relatives of deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 64 million under the Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF).

The embassy also announced a book grant for 39 educational institutions and libraries across all seven provinces and 21 districts of Nepal. The initiative aims to improve access to educational materials for students in remote areas.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian community in Nepal, embassy officials and their families. Students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and the Kendriya Vidyala in Kathmandu performed patriotic songs and cultural programs to mark the occasion.
