Krishna Prasad Yadav appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh

JANAKPURDHAM: Krishna Prasad Yadav, the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader in Madhesh, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province.

Province Chief Dr Surendra Labh appointed Yadav to the position as per Article 168(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, on Friday.

He replaces Saroj Kumar Yadav of CPN-UML, who stepped down just before his confidence vote on Wednesday.

Earlier, NC’s Yadav had staked his claim to form a government with the Province Chief, with the support of 77 out of 107 lawmakers of the province assembly.

A majority of 54 is needed to form a government in the province.

Yadav leads a seven-party alliance comprising the NC, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Janamat Party, CPN (Maoist Center), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal and CPN (Unified Socialist). He is the fourth Chief Minister of Madhesh since the 2022 election.

Chief Minister Yadav was elected in the Madhesh Province Assembly from Rautahat-1(B) constituency. He is also the President of the Madhesh Province Committee of the NC.
