Janamat recalls Madhesh Chief Minister Singh, withdraws support from govt Satish Kumar Singh

KATHMANDU: The Janamat Party has recalled Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh after he refused to step down despite announcing his resignation on his social media page.

The party’s provincial parliamentary party announced on Saturday that it had recalled Singh as well as the ministers representing the party in the provincial government, while also ending its support for the ruling coalition.

Janamat’s Parliamentary Party leader Mahesh Prasad Yadav has formally notified the Province Chief about the decision.

“Our party, Janamat Party, hereby withdraws its support to the government and recalls the chief minister and ministers,” the letter submitted to the Office of the Province Chief.

Singh had earlier announced his resignation on September 9 via social media after the Gen Z protest escalated.

“The present situation, in which we have failed to ensure the safety of citizens, has compelled me to make this decision with dignity,” Singh wrote, adding, “Nothing is more valuable than the lives of our citizens. With a firm belief in this, and in responsibility toward people’s rights and future, I resign as Chief Minister of Madhesh Province.”

However, Singh did not submit a formal resignation to the Province Chief. He insisted that he had not resigned, arguing that there was no reason for him to step down just to make way for another person.
