Nepali bar ranked 39th in Asia’s 50 Best Bars for 2024

KATHMANDU: Tripureshwar-based cocktail bar Barc has made it to the coveted list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars for 2024.

Barc was ranked 39th at the Asia’s 50 Best Bars ceremony held in Hong Kong on Tuesday. The ranking is based on votes from bar industry members and mixology experts, who look at categories like quality of drinks, level of service and that intangible quality that one might call “vibe”, according to CNN Travel.

Barc, which opened in 2021 in Bluebird Complex, Tripureswhar, is co-owned by Adarsha Tamrakar and Abhishek Tuladhar.

“Each page of the creative cocktail menu is headed by either a key local ingredient – such as titaura (hog plum), khattu (licorice), and aila (a Newari spirit) – a flavor profile like ‘spirit-forward’, or a drink type like ‘highball’ or ‘margarita’,” the 50 Best writes about Barc. “The signature Bloody Nepali, served in a martini glass, is a bold mix of vodka, Barc’s titaura mix and sugar, while the Coco Clarity is a mellow blend of coconut-washed vodka, banana ice cream wash, banana liqueur, dry vermouth and caramel syrup.”

Barc is one of two South Asian bars on the list. Bangalore-based ZLB 23, ranked 40th, is the only other South Asian bar on the list.

Hong Kong-based Bar Leone tops the list, followed by Zest of Seoul and Jigger & Pony of Singapore.

The list is published annually by the 50 Best which is owned and managed by UK-based William Reed – a digital, high value data and events business serving the food and drinks sector.
