Nepse gains 52,97 points; turnover above Rs 7.62 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gaining streak for a fourth straight session, logging gains of 52.97 points to close trading at 2,257.59 points on Sunday.

This is the biggest intra-day gain that the benchmark index has recorded since May 12 when it gained 58.55 points.

Such was the buying pressure on the bourse that the benchmark index was close to breaching the 2,300-point mark within just a few minutes into trading. After reaching the intra-day high of 2,290.95 points, the index erased some gains but still ended the session 2.4% higher.

Share prices of 201 companies advanced on the day, while 36 declined, and five remained unchanged. Janaki Finance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 242.75 million traded. Next were NRN Infrastructure and Development and Global IME Bank Promoter Shares with turnovers of Rs 212.74 million and Rs 207 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Banking sub-index, which was up by 3.74%. Hydropower and Trading were next with gains of 3.3% and 2.21%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 7.62 billion traded hands on the secondary market on Sunday – the highest since January 21 when the total turnover was Rs 7.63 billion.
