KATHMANDU: With the onset of the spring season, mountaineering expeditions have started applying for climbing permits at the Department of Tourism (DoT).
According to the DoT, 63 climbers, including 13 women, of five expedition teams, have been granted permits to climb Mt Everest – the highest peak in the world – till Monday.
Likewise, a total of 148 climbers – women and 106 men – from 17 expedition teams have obtained permits to climb various mountains. According to the Mountaineering Section of the DoT, the government has mobilized Rs 105.59 million as royalty from these expedition teams.
After Mt Everest, the highest number of climbing permits have been issued for Ama Dablam and Annapurna I.
Last year, a record 478 climbers had received permits to climb Mt Everest.
