Nepse extends losses to second straight session; turnover above Rs 7.11 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losses for the second straight day, losing 21.03 points to close the first trading day of the week at 2,088.07 points.

Although the Nepse index ended the day lower, the bourse recorded healthy growth in turnover as shares worth Rs 7.11 billion were traded on Sunday. This is the highest daily turnover since January 10 when shares worth Rs 7.29 billion had changed hands.

Although the benchmark index had posted gains initially, reaching an intra-day high of 2,132.64 points, a slump in the closing hour caused the benchmark index to end the day in red.

Share prices of 161 companies declined on the day, while 79 advanced and six remained unchanged. Nevertheless, the share prices of 12 companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on the day. Shivam Cements registered the highest turnover of Rs 304.32 million on Sunday, followed by Hathway Investment Nepal Ltd and Sonapur Oil and Minerals with total turnovers of Rs 295 million and Rs 281.94 million, respectively.

Nine sub-indices ended the day higher, while four logged marginal gains. The highest loss came from the Investment index, which was down by 3.89%. Trading and Manufacturing & Processing were next with losses of 3.11% and 2.75%, respectively.

A total of 1.85 million units of shares were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 128,356 transactions. Total market capitalization reached Rs 3.24 trillion.
