KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) experienced a decline of 26.66 points to close at 2,200.50 points on Monday.
The benchmark index had gained 63.24 points on Sunday.
The market opened for trading at 2,227.21 points and quickly took a downward trend. Despite recovering to reach an intra-day high of 2,243.88 points by midday, it eventually closed with a 1.19% loss.
Except for the Others and Mutual Fund groups, all sub-indices ended the day in the negative territory, with the Development Bank index experiencing the highest decline at 3.5%. Following closely were the Trading and Banking groups which ended the day 2.92% and 2% lower, respectively.
Out of 219 scrips traded on the day, 50 posted gains, 163 witnessed losses, while six remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company led the list of companies in terms of turnover, with shares worth Rs 255.66 million traded. Global IME Bank Ltd and Prabhu Bank Ltd followed closely with turnovers of Rs 191.65 million and Rs 151.98 million, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 4.73 billion were traded on the secondary market on Monday.
