48 households in Rukum West displaced by disaster incidents

SURKHET: As many as 48 households in Rukum West district have been displaced by floods and landslides.

According to the District Disaster Management Committee, 45 houses are in Athbiskot Municipality and three in Banfikot Rural Municipality.

Floods in Bagar of Athbiskot Municipality-12 claimed the lives of three children. One person is missing.

Floods and landslides have also displaced a few families in the district. They are taking shelter at local industrial units.

According to the committee, 1,557 houses in Athbiskot Municipality are at high risk of floods and landslides. Likewise, 54 houses in Banfikot Rural Municipality and 50 in Musikot Municipality are at risk.

The committee has sought tents and other logistics from authorities for the resettlement of these families. “We are in immediate need of 1,709 units of tents and other logistics. We have requested the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority for the logistics,” Hari Prasad Pant, Chief District Officer of Rukum West, said.

Pant also said they have requested affected families to send reports of crop and livestock losses due to disaster incidents to the local administration.
