KATHMANDU: A total of 410 candidates have registered their nominations for the local level by-elections.
According to the Election Commission, two female candidates have registered for the position of chairperson of the District Coordination Committee, Kailali, while one male candidate has registered for the position of chief of the District Coordination Committee, Okhaldhunga.
Similarly, 84 candidates – 48 men, 35 women and one others – have filed nominations for eight vacant positions of rural municipality chairs, vice-chairs, and mayors and deputy mayors of different municipalities. Likewise, 323 candidates – 293 men, 29 women and others – have filed their nominations for 34 vacant positions of ward chairpersons in different rural municipalities and municipalities.
According to the Election Commission, the highest nomination (21) for the position of ward chairperson has been received for Dhanushadham Municipality-1 of Dhanusha, while Putha Uttarganga-2 and Surma-4 of Bajhang have the lowest with three candidates each.
The Election Commission is holding the local body by-elections on December 1.
