KATHMANDU: About 30% of votes have been cast in Thabang Rural Municipality in Rolpa till 3:30 pm.
This is the first time that Thabang, which is considered the birthplace of the Maoist insurgency, participated in the election process. It had been boycotting all general elections since the Maoist started an armed rebellion in the 1990s.
People of Rolpa, however, participated in the local body election held in March. Maoist Center candidates were elected to the post of both Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
According to Khimananda Bhusal, chief election officer of Rolpa, 50% of votes have been cast in Rolpa district till 3:30 pm.
