KATHMANDU: As many as 29 cooperative promoters are on the run after misappropriating deposits from the general public.
A report submitted to the House of Representatives by the Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee on the Misuse of Cooperative Savings states that 29 promoters from 15 cooperatives have been absconding after misusing cooperative deposits.
The committee has instructed the government to arrest them as soon as possible.
According to the report, the cooperative promoters on the run include Gitendra Babu Rai of Sworan Laxmi Savings and Cooperatives; Bharat Maharjan, Rajmaya Maharjan, Sachin Maharjan, Sarala Maharjan, and Nimittaraj Shrestha of Sumeru Savings and Credit Cooperatives; and Gyan Bahadur Bamjan, Than Bahadur Budha Magar, Buddhi Gurung, and Bhupendra Rai of Surya Darshan Savings and Credit Cooperatives.
Likewise, Dev Kumar Nepali, Chhela Nepali, and Deepak Paudel of Image Savings and Credit Cooperatives; Taswiran Khatun, Asraf Ali, and Radhe Chandra Yadav of Sano Paila Savings and Credit Cooperatives; Sagar KC, Dinesh Rokka, and Hemanta Adhikari of Sahara Savings and Credit Cooperatives; Lilanath Gautam of Shiva Shikhar Savings and Credit Cooperatives; and Bishnu Prasad Rimal of Namaste Savings and Credit Cooperative are also on the run.
According to the report, Mahshankar Regmi of Megha Dream Multipurpose Cooperatives; Premdhwaj Lama of Kantipur Savings and Credit Cooperatives; Rajesh Shrestha of Standard Multipurpose Cooperative; Kush Chandra Shrestha of Prabhu Savings and Credit Cooperatives; Jyoti Gurung of Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative; Deepak Thapa of Arjan Savings and Credit Cooperatives; and Dinesh Paudel of Capital Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltd. are also absconding.
The committee, led by Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri of CPN-UML, submitted its report to the lower house on September 16.
The government on Wednesday decided to implement the recommendations made by the committee.
