25 NC CWC members urge party to honor demand for special convention

KATHMANDU: Twenty-five Central Working Committee members close to the establishment faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) have called on the party leadership to respect the demand for a special general convention.

Issuing a statement after a discussion held in Lalitpur on Friday morning, the group urged the party leadership to honour the demands raised by general convention representatives and contest upcoming House of Representatives elections with renewed energy and fresh thinking.

“The general convention representatives have already submitted a written application demanding a special general convention. Therefore, respecting the views of the representatives who have raised this demand, we earnestly appeal to the leadership to move forward with new energy and ideas, contest the elections unitedly, and create a results-oriented environment in favour of the party through dialogue and consensus,” the group said in a press statement.

The Central Working Committee members also underlined the need to make the NC a credible and trustworthy party ahead of the elections.

The NC is clearly divided into two groups—one advocating for the special convention, and the other opposing it.

The two general secretaries, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, have scheduled a special convention for January 11 to 13, respecting the demand from the general convention representatives. The party establishment, however, has been insisting that there is no need for a special convention as the party has already decided to hold its regular general convention in May.o be held before the elections.
