
KATHMANDU: Twenty-two climbers reached the summit of Mt Annapurna I (8,091 meters) — the 10th highest mountain in the world — on Monday.
Climbers from Nepal, Finland, Poland, Canada, Singapore, Ukraine, Iran, Pakistan, Spain, and the US reached the summit on Monday morning.
According to Lhakpa Sherpa of 8K Expeditions, Lakpa Norbu Sherpa (Nepal) and Anni Katri Penttilä (Finland) reached the summit at 8:22 am, while Bartlomiej Andrzej Paczoski (Poland), Sanu Sherpa (Nepal), Liliya Ianovskaia (Canada), Mingma Dorchi Sherpa (Nepal), Dawa Nurbu Sherpa (Nepal), Zeng Xiaoyun (Singapore), and Pema Lama Sherpa (Singapore) completed their ascent at 9:10 am.
Similarly, Pavlo Sydorenko (Ukraine), Lakpa Norbu Sherpa (Nepal), Nathaniel James Douglas (US), and Pechhumbe Sherpa (Nepal) also reached the summit of Annapurna on Monday.
The team had launched their final summit push from Camp III on Sunday evening.
Likewise, nine climbers — including four from Nepal — from Seven Summit Treks also reached the Annapurna I summit on Monday. According to the company, Jorge Egocheaga Rodriguez (Spain), Seyedhamidreza Hashemi (Iran), Paula Birgitta Strengell (Finland), Afshin Asgharzadehledari (Canada), and Sirbaz Khan (Pakistan), along with Nepali climbers Mingma Jangbu Sherpa, Ridar Lama Bhote, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, and Chhangba Sherpa, successfully climbed Annapurna I.
According to the company, Cesar Chinchay of Peru reached the Annapurna I summit on Sunday — the first successful summit of the mountain this spring.
The Department of Tourism has permitted 66 climbers from six expedition teams to climb Annapurna I this spring.
