200 Nepalis working for Russian Army: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has confirmed that a minimum of 200 Nepali youths are working for the Russian Army.

Speaking at a press meet organized at the CPN (Maoist Center) headquarters on Monday, Dahal said a few Nepalis are also working for the Ukrainian Army. “We have received information that a minimum of 200 Nepali youths are in Russia serving its army. The government is verifying this and taking initiatives for their return to Nepal,” he added.

Dahal also said that the government has activated all the mechanisms for the return of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is believed to have been taken hostage by Hamas.

Commenting on the controversy surrounding the ownership transfer of Ncell, Dahal said some individuals and groups were trying to tarnish the government’s image by making unfounded claims about the agreement. “I knew about the ownership transfer when I was in Dubai to attend COP-28. After learning about the agreement, I immediately asked the Chief Secretary to dig into more details about the agreement,” he added.

Dahal also said he has discussed the matter with senior leaders of the ruling coalition. “Considering the gravity of the issue, we held a discussion and concluded that the agreement is natural. We formed a high-level committee to study the deal,” Dahal said. “Despite this, some media outlets are claiming that the government embezzled billions in the agreement. This is nothing but propaganda.”
