18,903,689 eligible to vote on March 5

KATHMANDU: A total of 18,903,689 people are eligible to vote in the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

According to the Election Commission, there are 9,663,358 male voters, 9,240,131 female voters, and 200 non-binary voters in the voter roll.

Compared to the 2022 elections, the voter list has expanded by 915,119 new voters. The total number of registered voters stood at 17,988,570 in 2022.

Bagmati Province has the highest number of registered voters, with 3,682,390 voters, making it the largest electoral base in the country. Madhesh Province is close behind with 3,686,494 voters, followed by Koshi Province (3,578,390 voters), Lumbini Province (3,368,680), and Gandaki Province (1,740,085). Sudurpaschim Province has 1,796,680 voters, and Karnali Province has the lowest number, with 1,073,250 registered voters.

In terms of gender distribution, the data shows that female voters slightly outnumber male voters in most provinces. Male and female voter numbers remain largely balanced across provinces, while voters registered under the “other” gender category remain comparatively small.

According to the EC, voting will take place across 10,756 polling locations and 23,799 polling centers across the country.

The House of Representatives has 275 seats – 165 first past the post (FPTP) seats and 110 proportional representation seats.
