12 octogenarians in closed list of PR candidates!

KATHMANDU: As many as 12 octogenarians are in the closed list of candidates under the proportional electoral system of the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

According to the final list published on Friday by the Office of the Election Officer for the proportional representation system of the House of Representatives elections on Friday, 3,135 candidates from 63 political parties are contesting under 57 election symbols. Of them, 1,772 are women, and 1,363 are men.

According to the EC, there are 168 candidates in the 25–29 age group, 285 in the 30–34 age group, 401 candidates in the 35–39 age group, and 535 candidates in the 40–44 age group.

Similarly, there are 456 candidates in the 45–49 age group, 386 in the 50–54 age group, 355 in the 55–59 age group, 261 in the 60–64 age group, 158 in the 65–69 age group, 86 in the 70–74 age group, 32 in the 75–79 age group, including nine women and 23 men; and 12 candidates aged 80 and above, including one woman and 11 men, are included in the closed list.

Based on inclusive group categories, the list includes 911 candidates from Indigenous Nationalities (Adivasi Janajati), 946 from the Khas Arya group, 425 from the Dalit group, 203 from the Tharu group, 502 from the Madhesi group, and 148 from the Muslim community.
