KATHMANDU: Eleven Nepalis have stated that they have been denied promised facilities in Malaysia.
These Nepalis left for Malaysia five months ago through Nasa Human Resources Pvt Ltd to work as security guards. They said they encountered trouble after the company assigned them to work in a hotel instead, in various capacities such as cleaners, waiters, and housekeeping, etc. “Although we were promised a monthly pay of 2,100 ringgit, we are being offered only 1,685 ringgit,” they said.
The 11 victims – Shiva Kumar Prashan of Morang, Dipesh Dhakal of Jhapa, Yubaraj Ghimire of Okhaldhunga, Basanta Chaudhary, Ramesh Chaudhary, Subash Chaudhary, Pintu Kumar Sah, and Rajendra Kumar Chaudhary of Sunsari, Basanta Rawat of Dang, and Roshan Kumar Saud of Kailali – have sent an application to the Embassy of Nepal in Kuala Lumpur requesting help. They have also forwarded copies of the letter to the Department of Foreign Employment and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
“When we asked the recruitment agency to deploy us as security guards as stipulated in the contract or allow us to return to Nepal, they threatened to have us arrested by using the Malaysian police,” Yubaraj Ghimire of Okhaldhunga told Himal Press over the phone. “We have been housed at a room in Royale Chulan Seremban Hotel. We are also facing problems in getting food and accommodation.”
According to Ghimire, the manpower company’s promoter Yubaraj Gurung is no longer in contact. “The hotel management is now asking us to vacate the room,” he added.
These youths mentioned in the letter that they paid recruitment companies Rs 280,000 to land a job in Malaysia.
When Himal Press reached the office of Nasa Human Resources Pvt Ltd for comment, the staffer there said they have no information about the 11 youths.
Dunduraj Ghimire, the Director-General of the Department of Foreign Employment, said they have not received any complaints from the 11 youths. “However, we will take the necessary initiative with the Nepali mission in Kuala Lumpur and the said manpower company to reach out to them,” he added.
