KATHMANDU: Eleven candidates, who filed nominations for the post of Central Committee members in the ongoing 11th General Convention of the CPN-UML, have been elected unopposed.
According to Sanu Raj Pokharel, vice-chairperson of the party’s Central Election Commission, Lilamani Gautam, Naresh Rokaya, Sushil Kumar Thapa, Amar Kumar Yadav, and Raunit Sah from the Under-40 Group, as well as Gumadevi Acharya, Menaka Kumari Pokharel, and Shantidevi Dhakal from the Women’s Group, have been elected unopposed.
Similarly, Khajida Khatun Siddiqui from the Muslim Women’s Group, Badami Kwari Budha from the Backward Women’s Group, and Hari Prasad Ghimire from the Diaspora-South Asia Group have also been elected unopposed.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission has scrapped the candidacies of two Central Committee nominees, Pasang Sherpa and Dharmalal Giri.
Pokharel said that 14 candidates, including one contender for the post of deputy general secretary, have withdrawn their nominations. Rajendra Gautam, who had filed his candidacy for deputy general secretary, has withdrawn from the race.
A total of 2,263 delegates are casting their votes on Tuesday to elect the party’s new Central Committee.
