KATHMANDU: Nepal will be playing its 100th T20I match on Monday when it takes on the Netherlands in its first match of the Scotland tri-series in Glasgow.

Nepal began its T20I journey with an 80-run win over Hong Kong in the First Round of the 2014 Men’s T20 World Cup. Of the 99 matches played so far, Nepal has won 55 and lost 44. Two matches were tied, while three produced no result.

Over the past 11 years, Nepal has played T20Is against 25 countries. The Netherlands has been Nepal’s most frequent rival, with the two teams facing off in 13 matches. Hong Kong follows closely, having played Nepal 12 times. Nepal has played against Malaysia and the UAE 10 times each, while it has played eight times against Oman. Nepal has also played six matches against Papua New Guinea (PNG), five against Kenya, three against Canada, Ireland, Kuwait, the Maldives, Qatar, Singapore and the US. Similarly, Nepal has faced Bangladesh, Namibia and Zimbabwe twice each, while it has played one match each against Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Mongolia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Thailand.

2014 (4 Matches)
Nepal played four T20I matches in 2014, winning two and losing two.

Nepal made its T20I debut at the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup, securing a dominant 80-run win against Hong Kong in its first-ever T20I. Nepal won two of its three matches in the tournament, defeating Afghanistan and Hong Kong, but suffered an eight-wicket loss to host Bangladesh.

Later that year, Nepal played another T20I against Hong Kong in Colombo on November 10, losing by two wickets.

2015 (7 Matches)
In 2015, Nepal played seven T20Is, including a series against the Netherlands. Nepal lost three of the four matches in that series.

In the ICC World T20 Qualifier, Nepal played three matches against Ireland, Hong Kong, and Papua New Guinea (PNG), losing all three—by eight wickets each to Ireland and PNG, and by five wickets to Hong Kong.

2018 (1 Match)
Nepal played only one T20I in 2018, against the Netherlands at Lord’s. The match ended with no result.

2019 (19 Matches)
Nepal was active in 2019, playing 19 T20Is. The year began with a three-match home series against the UAE. After a 21-run loss in the opening match, Nepal bounced back to win the next two by four wickets and 14 runs, respectively.

Nepal then toured Malaysia, winning both matches by seven wickets and six runs.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Regional Final in Singapore, Nepal won against Malaysia and Kuwait (both by seven wickets), but lost to Qatar (by four wickets) and to Singapore (by 82 runs).

Nepal also played in the Singapore T20I Tri-Series against Singapore and Zimbabwe. It lost both matches against Zimbabwe, won one match against Singapore, and another was washed out.

In the Oman Pentangular T20I Series, Nepal faced Hong Kong, Oman, Ireland, and the Netherlands. It won against Hong Kong and the Netherlands (both by four wickets), but lost to Ireland and Oman by 13 runs and six wickets, respectively.

Nepal ended the year with three T20I matches during the South Asian Games in Kirtipur, winning against the Maldives (twice) and Bhutan. Matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were not considered official as they fielded U-23 teams.

2020 (3 Matches)
Nepal played three T20Is in 2020. In the ACC Eastern Region T20 in Bangkok, Nepal defeated Thailand by nine wickets but lost to Hong Kong and Malaysia by 43 runs and 22 runs, respectively.

2021 (5 Matches)
Nepal hosted a tri-nation T20I series in April featuring the Netherlands and Malaysia. Out of five matches, Nepal won four and lost one—a three-wicket defeat to the Netherlands in the league round. Nepal defeated the Netherlands in the final to lift the trophy.

2022 (18 Matches)
Nepal had a packed schedule in 2022, participating in the Oman Quadrangular Series, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A, a home tri-series, and a tour of Kenya.

In the Oman Quadrangular Series, Nepal won one of three matches—against Oman—and lost to UAE and Ireland.

In the T20 World Cup Qualifier A, Nepal won all three group stage matches (against Oman, Philippines, and Canada), lost to UAE in the semi-final, but defeated Oman in the third-place playoff.

During a five-match series against Kenya in Nairobi, Nepal won three and lost two.

2023 (13 Matches)
Nepal competed in the Asian Games, a tri-nation series with Hong Kong and the UAE, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier Final.

In the Asian Games, Nepal crushed Mongolia and the Maldives by 273 and 138 runs, respectively, but lost to India by 23 runs.

In the tri-nation series, Nepal won both group matches against UAE and Hong Kong, but lost to UAE by four wickets in the final.

In the Asia Qualifier Final hosted in Nepal, Nepal defeated Singapore, Malaysia, and UAE but lost to Oman by five runs in the group stage. The final against Oman ended in a tie (both teams scored 184), but Nepal lost in the Super Over. Despite the loss, Nepal and Oman both qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

2024 (25 Matches)
2024 was Nepal’s busiest T20I year, with major series and tournaments including a home tri-series (Namibia and Netherlands), a tri-series in Hong Kong (with PNG), the ACC Premier Cup in Oman, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, a tri-series in Canada (with Oman), and a tour of the USA.

Nepal lost the first two matches of the home series but won the next two to reach the final, where it lost to the Netherlands by four wickets.

Ahead of the Hong Kong tri-series, Nepal lost a standalone match to the hosts by 73 runs. The first match of the tri-series was washed out. Nepal defeated PNG by 85 runs in its second match but lost the final to PNG by 86 runs.

In the ACC Premier Cup in Oman, Nepal won its first four matches (against Qatar, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia) but lost to UAE in the semifinal and to Hong Kong in the third-place playoff.

In the T20 World Cup, Nepal lost all three group matches—to the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia (by one run), and Bangladesh (by 21 runs).

In Canada, Nepal won both matches against Oman but lost both to the hosts.

Nepal ended the year with a three-match series against the USA in Dallas, winning two and tying one.

2025 (4 Matches So Far)
Nepal has played four T20Is in 2025 so far, all in the Hong Kong T20 Quadrangular. It defeated Qatar and Kuwait, while the group match against Hong Kong was washed out. In the final, Nepal lost to Kuwait by just three runs.
