KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 10 Indian nationals on charges of obtaining Nepali citizenship by furnishing fake documents.
A team deployed from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office of the Nepal Police made the arrests following an investigation that lasted three and a half months.
SSP Manoj KC of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said the police could make a few more arrests in the case.
Those arrested by the police have been identified as Bharat Prasad Gupta (55), Rahul Gupta (30), Gyanamati Devi Gupta (5), and Gopal Gupta (39). All five are currently residing in Shankhamul.
Others arrested include Ram Sundar Gupta (44), Ram Prabesh Gupta (43), Bharat Gupta (46), Snehalata Gupta (42), Meendevi Gupta (49), and Rajesh Kumar Gupta (52).
According to the police, all 10 individuals hail from the Bihar state of India. They have been found to have obtained citizenship from Siraha, Bara, Parsa, Rupandehi, and other districts.
“We arrested them from Shankkhamul, Bagbazaar, Kalanki, and Baneshwar,” SSP KC said. “All of them have obtained citizenship by descent.”
