Guglielmo Arena named head coach of men’s national football team

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has appointed Guglielmo Arena as the new head coach of the Nepali national men’s football team.

Arena received his appointment letter from ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai amid a ceremony at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato on Thursday.

His first assignment will be Nepal’s international friendly against Hong Kong at Dasharath Stadium on March 26.

Arena, who holds dual citizenship of Switzerland and Italy, was born on December 23, 1973, in Montreux, Switzerland, and holds an AFC Pro License.

He previously served as manager of the Laotian national team and the U23 team in 2023, where he oversaw four U23 matches during his four-month spell. Most recently, Arena managed MAS Fes, a club competing in Morocco’s top-tier Botola Pro. He took charge of the club’s 19 league matches.

The position had been lying vacant since October 2025 after Australian coach Matt Ross resigned just eight months into his one-year contract. Ross, who was appointed in March 2025, led Nepal in seven matches, recording one win, two draws, and four defeats.
