Former senior engineer of LDT sentenced to six years in prison for corruption

KATHMANDU: The Special Court has sentenced Saroj Bhattarai, a former senior engineer of the Lumbini Development Trust, to six years in prison.

A division bench of Special Court Chairperson Tek Narayan Kunwar and Members Tejnarayan Singh Rai and Ritendra Thapa determined the quantum of punishment on Thursday. Bhattarai has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 8 million.

The bench had convicted Bhattarai of corruption last week.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a charge sheet against Bhattarai in March, accusing him of accepting Rs 8 million as a bribe from a company handling construction contracts of the LDT.

Bhattarai was serving as the Project Chief of the LDT at that time.
